The short length of the book works well for infants and toddlers, as each page only has a few words. The illustrations are simple, borrowing from past Eric Carle books to maintain his style, and showing the animals most related to the text (for instance, on the page with "but you're still cool" it features polar bears) on a white background. This is a simple style that will work well for little ones. The very hungry caterpillar appears on each page, almost hidden and could make for a fun and easy search for toddlers. I believe this book took a lot of courage to write. To me she did a great job of not showing bitterness just love, confusion, and taking back the power. Belle admitted to her struggles and being knocked off her feet by what happened. She asked the questions and was left with No answers. She picked herself up and proved she was strong.
